The Yardstick has been satisfying customers since 1958. The family-owned business has had the reputation of offering the highest quality custom draperies and re-upholstery at lower prices than its major competitors and department stores. Located in Cupertino in Northern California, The Yardstick continues the family tradition of serving our customer’s needs with quality selection and service.
Ruth and Bernard Alter, with their three children, moved to California from the mid west in the 1950's. They started the business by selling dress fabrics in San Jose in 1958. After outgrowing their location, they moved the business to a larger facility on Union Avenue. In 1964 they moved to their location at 2110 South Bascom Ave, Campbell, California.

Today, Jack Alter, one of the children, owns and operates the family business at 10564 S. De Anza Blvd. Cupertino, Ca 95014
